Out of the nutshell

Alright, so here's the story on my little man, Gage.
Soooo, as you may (or may not) have read in my previous posts, Hope and Brett Ovard are two of my dearest friends. Well, more Hope than Brett. But only because she's a girl, and ya know, it just kinda falls that way. So anyway-- Gage is there beautiful new baby boy who came into this world on March 8, 2011 at 6:48 Pm (something like that i think...) He was a very healthy, pink baby weighing in at 7 lbs, 4 oz, and measuring 19.5 inches long. Nothing went wrong during his birth, no cords wrapped around his neck, or dropping of the little man on his head, etc.... But shortly after he was expelled from the womb, the doctors noticed there was a problem of some sort in his breathing. He was still very pink, he was just having a difficult time.
Now this could be associated with many different things. Such as a sickness (flu, cold, etc) which he did not have. This is where it becomes a worry to the doctors. So have some tests, and x-rays, it was found out that he had what is called a diaphragmatic hernia. This is where there is a hole in his diaphragm. As a result of this not so awesome hole, his intestines, stomach, and spleen were up in his left chest cavity squishing his little left lung. His right one was the only on working. So late Tuesday night it was decided that Gage would be taken up to Primary Childrens Hospital. Seeing as how Hope had just given birth, she could not be discharged. Lucky me, I didn't have to work the next day (thank goodness for block schedules!!) and so i offered to stay the night with Hope so that Brett could be with Gage up in SLC.
So i spent the night in the hospital with Hope and Brett spent the night in the hospital with Gage. The worst part about this whole situation is that Gage has not been allowed to be held yet. Hope got to hold him for a few minutes, but only for enough time to allow for a blessing.
Friday afternoon they finally did surgery on him and now his is in recovery, with an open wound so that his small body can adjust to the fixing that has had to go on. He seems to doing well and so are mom and dad. It's been really hard but it's amazing to see how powerful the priesthood has been. It makes me wonder how anyone can deny the power of Christ. Sure, bad things happen all the time, but when i look at Gage, i wonder how something and someone so small who has very little control over his tiny body can go through so much and come out okay. It just amazes me.
So here are my sad pictures, but pictures that i love soooo much to look at. He really is such a pretty baby with beautiful (already pretty long) blonde hair, and lovely brighter blue eyes. He did grab my finger for a short bit and it was the most awesome thing. He is definitely his daddy's little boy.

This is Gage, right before his transport up to Primary Childrens. Look at how pink and perfectly round his cute little face is!!

And here is Gage right after he got up there, all hooked up to everything. He is looks soooo long!! but he sure is cute!!

And we super love him to death! and can't wait to hold him and love him and kiss his little round face :)
